Rehabilitation facilities offer addicts the ability to start the recovery journey, by helping them to break free from the physical draw of the addictive substance. Rehab can provide structure and support for the addict in recovery. However, this time must end. Many patients return straight home, and continue their recovery journey at home. Others, however, may not feel that they are yet ready to return home. A sober living facility in Washington might be the right solution.
There is no predetermined time for how long you should stay in a sober living home. Addiction recovery experts agree that in order to best benefit from what sober living homes offer, recovering addicts should consider a 90-day stay. Some may find that transitioning between rehab and home life doesn’t need a full 90-day stay. They may benefit from an extra 30 days focusing on their sobriety. Others, however, may find that they need to extend their stay to over 120 days in a sober living home.
Prior to the selection of a sober living facility, be sure to find out what their policies are about the length of stay that you’ll be able to experience. Policies can vary greatly between facilities, with some being incredibly flexible if you need to shorten or lengthen your stay.
It’s important not to rush your return to your home and busy work life.
Do you know the difference between a halfway house and a sober living facility in Washington? There are several similarities between the two types of transitional housing options. Each type offers the stability, structure and sober living community that will help those in recovery to better focus on what their recovery and sobriety looks like.
Halfway houses in Washington are quite often state run, or operated by non-profit and religious organizations. This also means that many of them offer a sliding scale for payment, based upon the resident’s ability to pay. Sober living housing is most often privately operated. They may cost significantly more than what halfway houses do, but they also offer more services and benefits.
Sober living housing most often provides private or semi-private accommodations, whereas the halfway house may offer more of a dormitory environment.
Many sober living facilities offer services that include meal planning and access to gourmet kitchens. Some halfway houses may also offer access to meals, but many will not.
A major consideration to keep in mind is that halfway houses may be more restrictive about the length of time that residents can stay with them. Sober living housing may offer more flexibility.
As someone in sobriety, you know how tenuous your connection to your sobriety can be when under periods of stress or hardship. Time spent in rehab can equip you with the tools that you need to handle those stressors head-on. Only you will be able to work on preventing a relapse. What you experience and learn in rehab can help you to learn how to best prevent a relapse. The ongoing experiences and lessons from time in a halfway house can help you to better focus on what it takes to stand up to stressors and hardships that may otherwise lead to relapse.
Your sobriety is important. Taking the time to focus on your sobriety before you return home can help to better promote the stability you need as life happens around you.
